As predicted, today Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has officially released firmware v3.00 for the PlayStation Portable (PSP). The new firmware has many major improvements however the notable ones include the ability to play PlayStation 1 games and communicate with the PlayStation 3. Another feature SCEA has finally added, which should have been included since 1.50, is the ability to disable automatic loading of UMDs, which saves the hassle of having to remove the game if you want to use any of the PSP’s other features. (Video demonstration below!)
PSP v3.00 Firmware Features:
- PlayStation Network titles are now supported under [Game].
- [Remote Play] has been added as a feature under [Network].
- [Online Instruction Manuals] has been added as a feature under [Network].
- Timed recording has been added as a feature under [RSS Channel].
- A visual player has been added as a feature under [Music].
- 3-speed fast forward and fast reverse has been added as a feature under [Music].
- [Camera] has been added as a feature under [Photo].
- [UMD Auto-Start] has been added as a feature in [System Settings] under [Settings].
One smart addition was in depth Online Instruction Manuals which covers almost every feature that the PSP offers. However I don’t know how useful it will be for the many PSP users who are still trying to get online via WiFi.
Another good feature is the timer for the “RSS Channel”. After setting any specific time, the PSP will turn itself on (even if completely off) and download the latest podcasts, photos, or videos from the feeds you have specified. The coolest feature added in v3.00 is probably the visualizations for the music playback. There are currently 5 different styles including a random feature which switches through the 5. The visualizations work for both content under Music and RSS Channel.
Of the features included in the update the PS1 game emulator is probably the most important, but there is no content available yet. We are unable to demonstrate “Remote Play” feature since we still haven’t received our PlayStation 3. Check back later for reviews of these features including a review of the PSP camera once it is released.
Notice: (11/22/06) Sony has just released second update v3.01. It consists of the exact same features as v3.00, except for “security enhancements”. We don’t know what this means, but do not update to 3.01. We have v3.00 available for download below. Just copy the EBOOT.PBP file into PSPGAMEUPDATE folder to update. We think that Sony might have left a hole to allow for homebrew on 3.00 so don’t upgrade any further unless you don’t care.
Download: EBOOT.PBP (v3.00) or via PSP: Settings -> Network Update

Hey there,
I allowed myself to put this YouTube video on my blog in the post where I rant about 3.0 firmware (with a link to this article, of course).
I hope it is not a problem, but in case you would mind about that, just let me know.
Cheers,
Barts
Where is the update when I go out to the psp site all I see is the update to 2.82?
@killerKurt
I have added the link to download the firmware into the post. v3.01 has also been released and can be found on Sony’s site, however we recommend that you stay with v3.00, which you can download here.
I have tried to update to version 3.0 or 3.01 but I have not been able to. My computer says that the file is either damaged or in an uknown format i really need help guys please anything would be apreciated I am becoming desperate lol. so please I am not able to update to v3.00.
@Raf
1) download the file from the link above. (don’t rename file)
2) copy the file as is into EX: E:\\PSP\GAME\UPDATE\[HERE]
3) once EBOOT.PBP is inside the UPDATE folder disconnect
4) in the PSP go to navigate to GAME -> Memory Stick
5) plug in power to your PSP and select the update file
if you do that properly it should work just fine.
also make sure you didn’t leve anything else in the UPDATE folder

As of today and according to sony.com, there is no downgrade available for firmware version 3.1 or 3.2 . But if you need assistance with downgrading version 3.03 or below, check out this link: http://enhancemylife.net/pspdowngrader.html
The site claims that they will have a downgrade for the latest firmwares within a couple of weeks (3.1+)
You guys need to be careful, dont want to brick your PSP, which sux – I’ve seen people do that. It seems as though a lot of you have…
hey–i have v3.11, is their any way at all to downgrade?
[Comment ID #21337 Will Be Quoted Here]
If it were possible you can find more info http://dark-alex.org
That site is reliable, but as always be careful when downgrading.
hey, I know i would do this well, but then when i get to the part where it says PSP/VIDEO..etc, it doesn’t have GAMES/UPDATES. Should I make a folder like that? Or is there something wrong that i’m doing?
Yes and No. You do have to create your own folder the first time you do this. The folder names are GAME and UPDATE, no ‘s’ at the end of either. When your done the EBOOT.PBP should be located under PSP/GAME/UPDATE/EBOOT.PBP. Look at this visual if you need it.
i have version 3.11 can i still downgrade my firmware is it possible
What should i do? i dont no if i should wait 2 see if they make a downgrade for 3.11, spend money on grand theft auto, or break a piece in the psp because i still have the reciept. i dont want 2 wait 2 long 2 see if they make a downgrade, i dont want 2 spend money on a game, and i dont want 2 break it in case they notice. some1 tell me which 1 to do.
