When webOS made its debut at CES 2009, Palm was back in business after becoming irrelevant as competition such as the Apple iPhone dominated the market. While device such as the Palm Pre kept the company going, the company’s stock price was suffering. HP bought the company in April 2010 for $1.2 billion with intentions to keep the young webOS platform alive. Although HP announced the Palm Pre 2 with many performance improvements and an updated version of webOS late last year, it went largely unnoticed again due to the rapid evolution of Android smart phones on the market. Fortunately, it looks like things are about to change next month.
HP is hosting a webOS event on February 9th in San Francisco. While there are no official details yet, Engadget leaked details about upcoming tablets that made their way across the internet. It is also likely that HP will introduce another revamp to webOS and compatibility for the slate form factor. While the number of tablets that came out of CES 2011 are nearly uncountable, premium devices such as this one has potential to stand out from the rest. However there is no doubt that a Palm tablet will face stiff competition from the Apple iPad 2, the BlackBerry PlayBook, the Motorola Xoom, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab.
