I was not always the Apple fanatic that I am today. A couple of years ago, I was dead against buying Macs because I thought they were pricey machines that do not offer anything special to justify their price. I still think they are expensive, but I understand the competition just can not parallel the experience that comes along with a Mac. Still, let the record show that I currently own a PC and any problems I have with Windows 7 are minimal.
However, I have always loved my iPhone. My first was a 3G — the 2008 model. Then last year I upgraded to the iPhone 4 after my two-year contract with AT&T expired. I honestly do not consider myself biased toward Apple. There is a difference between being biased and being loyal to a product. If another company makes a better phone than the iPhone, I would happily push Apple aside and use that phone. But no one is making anything better.
A lot of people think Google has successfully created a better smart phone product with Android. I have spent some time with Android, though not a lot. I used phones like the Motorola Droid and the HTC Droid Incredible for maybe an hour each and formed an opinion. I never spent an extended period of time with an Android up until last week. I received my Kyocera Echo review unit in the mail and recently posted my full opinion on the device to Skatter Tech. It is not exactly a reputable phone.
But despite the gripes I have with the Echo, I did get to experience Android for an extended period of time. I understand that the hardware can dramatically affect the software, but that is not what I want to comment on. Is Android better than iOS? That is the simple question I found out for myself.
First, let me talk about what I did enjoy in Android that I wish Apple would implement in iOS. I really like the widgets. In my experience, they are a useful way to check small bits of information without having to launch an app and close it again. Society today is constantly on the go and we need our smart phones to support that. Android has widgets, Windows Phone 7 has live tiles, and Apple just has a sea of icons that require activation.
Now about the whole Flash thing. A lot of people complain about the lack of Adobe love on iOS, but I never really had a problem with it because I rarely visit websites that require the plugin. On Android, is it buggy? In a nutshell, yes. I would not go as far as to say Flash cripples the experience, but it absolutely has its flaws. I always thought Apple should at least give users the option on iOS. Even if they turn off Flash by default because they feel it degrades the browser, a switch in the settings to turn it on could do no harm. If the user agrees with Apple, then by all means turn it off again.
There are other small things worth noting like the great notification system, but since Apple is improving that in iOS 5, it is no longer an advantage to Android.
Time for what I do not like about Android — the part everyone anxiously awaits. Some people do not care about this, but there is absolutely no polish or attention to detail. The subtle animations in iOS and the consistency of the UI just make my iPhone a pleasure to use. There is nothing to figure out. It just works.
I have yet to encounter a single Android smart phone that has a touchscreen as smooth and accurate as the iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. It has been years since the iPhone came out, and why manufacturers can not perfect touch technology beats me. Switching over to the Echo was almost frustrating in this regard.
With over 200,000 apps, everyone is going to find something in the Android Market to pique their interest. The problem is that most of the apps are just not good. Thanks to the approval process in the iOS app store, developers must maintain a high standard of quality, and they do. On Android, if an app consistently crashes or does not work correctly, it becomes the user’s problem instead of the developer’s problem. And if it means anything, the apps are ugly too.
Finally, some may just dislike the iPhone for hardware reasons. The latest Android phones have dual-core processors at blazing speeds, while the iPhone is single-core and experts believe the speed is slightly less than 1 GHz. This is true, but Android is such a resource hog that the less powerful iPhone is still comparable in speed.
So, now that I had a more in-depth experience with Android, does it defeat the iPhone once and for all? No. I am still a loyal Apple fanboy and I am sticking with my iPhone. Of course there are more small details I left out — good and bad — but these are my main findings. I do have a bit more respect for Android, however. It gets a lot of bad press when I consider it a fairly worthy competitor. If the operating system evolves and proves better than the iPhone, as I said, I will make the switch. Currently, my iPhone provides a great experience that Android has not yet matched.
“The latest Android phones have dual-core processors at blazing speeds, while the iPhone is single-core and experts believe the speed is slightly less than 1 GHz. This is true, but Android is such a resource hog that the less powerful iPhone is still comparable in speed.”
what piece of crap did you use with android on it, i have the Galaxy S2 and every friend that used it said it was super fast and super light compared to their iphone 4’s. hell even the Galaxy S is a match for the iphone 4 except for the lack of flash on the camera.
if your going to do a fair review or comparison at least used the best on android to face apples best eh?
Hear hear! I tried to switch to the X2 and a couple of other android phones – just to find myself back to the Iphone 4. Your article translates exactly my experience. I find the iphone is actually faster than any android I’ve tried !! And yes, the screen is accurate and the android swype thing *sucks* !! LOL
I’m surprised at the level insults and snakiness this article has brought on by the android lovers. This sort of “panties in a bunch” behavior is normally reserved for apple fanboys. I do understand the desire to customize which the iPhone does not provide without jail breaking it. I owned a htc evo for awhile and I did like the widgets and the notification system quite a bit. I eventually went back to my iPhone 3g. The main reason was the apps and the screen of the iPhone compared to the evo. Of course, now there are plenty of android phones with excellent screens. I’m still happy with my iPhone 4 mainly because of the polished apps and the retina display. I used to be someone who would constantly tweak my phone and my computer but I’ve found that’s something I’m less and less interested in doing. I do have my iPhone 4 jailbroken mainly to add some themes and some additional minor tweaks. I still feel that where android still needs to catch up is the quality and polish of their apps. They definitely have improved since I had my evo but I still have some friends with android phones and many of the same apps on their phones are just not as polished as on my iPhone. That gap is definitely narrowing but, for me, I still appreciate the level of polish and consistency that the apps on the iPhone provide. If I was still someone who felt like customizing and tweaking my phone a lot I would definitely stick with an android phone. For now, I will stick with my iPhone and not take it as a personal attack when someone insults the iPhone.
I don’t jailbreak my iPhone, but I would agree that a jailbroken iPhone is just as customizable as Android, for those who like to “work” on their phone.
@George, this is false. Even with a jailbroken iphone things like homescreen widgets (not lockscreen widgets), replacement launchers and 3rd party application integration are not possible on iphones. There you go again with “work on their phones”. Perhaps it’s best if you just stuck with your iphone anyway. We wouldn’t want to make things too difficult for you.
First of all, from a person who went from an iPhone to the Android, I have to say that you pick up a lot of bad habits while using the iPhone and you have to unlearn them to start using Android productively. The two OSes simply work differently. It takes more than a week to start thinking differently. I think it would be foolish to deny that the iPhone has an excellent and very fluid UI. But if the only thing you are concerned about in the U is User, iOS is fine. But if the U also stands for Usability, Android runs circles around iOS.
Just one example. In the upcoming iOS5, Apple is making a big deal about integration with Twitter. It’s hard wired to use Twitter, and only Twitter. Meanwhile Android has a concept of intents that any App can expose. Any 3rd party app can then consume that intent and effectively get integrated into another app. When I take a picture on my Android, I can share it via all the standard transports like email and sms. But in addition, I can also share it via dropbox, picasa, DNLP… and any other app that may want to inject itself in the standard app.
The lack of an exposed file system forces awkward interactions. eg. the seamless integration between keepass (PIM software) and dropbox is completely lacking in the two corresponding apps on the iPhone. If you are installing/updating multiple apps from AppStore. it kicks you out of iTunes for every app. Idiotic.
I disagree with certain parts of this, but I respect your opinion and completely understand where you are coming from.
If this article were an app, Google would let it on the market and Apple would reject it as it lacks common sense and polish.
Can you post a list of those ugly apps on Android that are beautiful on iOS?
Gladly. http://android-gripes.tumblr.com/post/4409289546/why-do-apps-from-the-same-company-look-worse-on-android
First of all thanks for your article. It brings Android fans to show the power of new generation android handsets.
I had the chance to play with iPhone 4 for a month. I find it really smooth in compare to my old HTC Desire. I really feel bad when I find switching between screens in my old Android is not ALWAYS smooth. Whenever I play Hotel Mogul HD or AirAttack HD in my HTC Desire I just want to cry.
But even after all the polished UI of iOS I missed my freedom what I enjoyed for years in Androids (first HTC Magic then Desire). If you play with Android for a month you will learn the real freedom of this platform. You may need to grow with it a little bit to realize its true power.
The only thing I really hate about new Androids are lack of a trackball (from my HTC Magic, its my personal choice), not the polished UI.
Regarding the list “why-do-apps-from-the-same-company-look-worse-on-android” I’ll say Facebook app is not ugly looking in Android. Who ever took the snap intentionally didn’t give the time to load the thumbnails of bar at bottom. FB app in Android is more usable than iOS.
For Meebo I agree that iOS version is hundred times more polished.
I’m not counting Speedtest app. There are thousand other similar apps with nice interface.
If you count app by app, then you will find comparable good looking apps in Android platform too.
But do you have interface like HTC Sence? Or many other UI tools like ADW launcher? they just DON’T EXIST in iOS.
I can’t even compare how powerful & polished some of them can be, because they just don’t exist in iOS. Worst part is there is no possibility to have such apps in future.
What iphone and ios lack of is the diversified environment.
Android gives you diversified environment both in hardware and in OS.
see this list again http://theiphonefever.blogspot.com/p/idont-list.html
Only the widget can take you to a different level of user experience, running 4/5 apps (widget) in one desktop without even opening the app, how you compare with that?
You had to wait for Apple to release many features (like wifi sync, wallpaper, cut paste) where Android users enjoyed them since there early release. Tonnes other features are already in Android that you will experience 2/3 years later and will say “its magical”.
For gamers Android have gamepad in xperia play. you can’t compare user experience with real gamepad.
For heavy texters Android have G1, experia mini pro, desire z, droids with qwert keyboard. Smoothest touchscreen can’t give you the feeling of the real touch of physical key.
Flyer and Toshiba tablet has got stylus pen.
Trackball, keyboard, gamepad, nfc, FM, dlna etc are among many other hardware lackings of Apple mobile platform. These diverse hardware platform takes Android to a different level. People can find almost everything in Android they want .
To me Android gives more diverse environment which may takes longer to learn.
Wow. This screen caps solidify your troll status.
First, the keyboard on Android is customizable. If you dont like how the buttons look then go try another keyboard. I use FlexT9 because of the swype typing feature.
Second is facebook. The Android icon are smaller because the Andoird phones’ screen is bigger. The icons have to be large for iphone to make them easily seen on the small screen. That gray area on the bottom where recently posted photos are displayed. If you actually had friends (and I’m not surprised you don’t) you would see this.
Third is the speedtest app. The UI was recently updated and iphone got the the update first. Congratulations. The Android update has been updated also and has the same UI.
The only true way to compare iOS and Android is to compare an iPhone to a Nexus S or Nexus S 4G. Nexus is the only series that has pure Android without bloatware or skins. Plus, with the latest version of Gingerbread rather than Froyo like the Echo has it makes it a fair comparison. You can’t compare the latest iOS version to an earlier version of Android. Nexus S 4G has the latest Android version, single-core processor (and it’s still the fastest phone I’ve ever used), smooth UI, and no bloatware bogging down the system like almost all other phones do because A) The manufacturer believes they can improve upon it (which they don’t) or B) The carrier puts all their bloatware on it. If you want a true comparison of OSs, grab the Nexus and perhaps try again. I’d love to see an in-depth analysis with a fair comparison.
Suggesting iPhone apps are somehow better only shows the level of ignorance the author has as a whole towards his own point. Android offers open apis to allow apps to integrate into the system which ios simply does not. This in fact is a laughable comparison entirely, ios is for people who don’t want to do anything to their phone. Android is for people who like options
Are you honestly saying the quality of the apps on Android are better than those on iOS?
Yes, honestly, I think having system apis apps can access generally add functionality that ios simply cant. Sorry but you seem to only have compared Facebook apps.
The most important apps that I use on a phone ARE better on Android. Gmail app, YouTube app, the browser, the gallery app, the music player. Iphone had a better Facebook app, up until very recently.
That is exactly what I’m saying too. I actually find that apps on Android are by and large better than apps on iPhone. The iPhone apps *look* better than the Android apps and they are smoother. But the Android apps are actually a lot more usable and in general more productive.
the sad thing is, is that apple users are almost always judging things by aesthetics over functionality, weird considering their products, to me, look extremely dated and generic. it wasn’t that long ago they were putting metal brush finishes and leather skins on software….oh wait, they just did that in lion.
I’m sure these apps have been updated since I last owned an Android phone which was the HTC EVO but when I did own it the apps Evernote, MLB At Bat, and I believe the ESPN app was not even out for Android yet. I assume these apps must have been updated by now but these apps had less functionality than the iPhone version and they do not look nearly as nice at the time when I was using android.
If you have never tried the Galaxy S2, then you have not even given android a fair go.
I suppose for the average user who simply wants a good smartphone without any customization options (without jail-breaking it), the iPhone is better. But, for those who want a good smart phone we can customize (even without rooting), Android is much better than iOS.
That’s what all articles comparing Android and iOS should say. … Personally, I love my Droid2, and my mom loves her iPod. I like the options in Android. She likes the simplicity of iOS compared to Android.
How is it that you say that flash is a positive and yet the whole paragraph you bash it as buggy? This makes it clear that in using android you were looking for problems not trying out the experience. You also say that the iphone touch screen is the most responsive yet samsung, the maker of that screen uses updated screens like the super amoled and the super amoled+? You also claim to have used several other Android phones but the ones you listed aren’t the high preforming top rated phones like the EVO or the Galaxy S series, which by the way are now old hack. I think that the problem is that you, like many other apple fans don’t want to have to put in the energy of highly customizing your hand set that makes android able to outpreform that Iphone, at least in the tests I’ve done. Saying this is unbiased is just silliness.
The point is I shouldn’t have to put in the energy. It should just work.
i think there’s the basis in the difference in opinion between a die hard apple fanboy and a die hard android fanboy.
apple fans expect things to just work out of the box. “why in the world do i want to have to meddle around with annoying settings before i start using my phone?”
android fans expect to be able to do exactly what they want with their phone, in exactly the way they want it to. “what do you mean i can’t modify what that circular button with a square on it does??”
it is that very difference in expectations that result in this. people compare a civic to a bmw but in this case i think the argument is more about a lexus vs a lamborgini. a lexus just works. you buy the car, you drive the car, but a lambo user will want to tweek the specs, the tuning, the seat type and material, before they use it.
to george, it’s unfair to place an iphone expectation on an android. i mean, if you’re expecting something comparable to ios, you might as well wait for ios 5. don’t ask for leather seats on a lambo.
to all fellow android fans out there, they can’t give a shit if we can make our phone hack the pentagon network. they won’t like it if it doesn’t look pretty, so give it a rest.
rofl at greg saying he doesn’t think choice is a good thing, made my day, wow, just wow, he was probably part of the group screaming they didn’t need SMS until he got it, that’s what apple fans do, when a feature isn’t available to them they claim they don’t need it, as if just having the option is a bad thing, thankfully the majority of the market prefers android.
Ok, we all know that Android is a better phone OS and that the newer Android phones have some sick hardware that blows the iphone out of the water. No Apple fanboy has ever been able to name one feature that an iPhone can do that an Android cannot. Not one. I have asked on many forums and the closest thing to an answer has been “It just works”. Well, so do Android devices. I have named things Android devices can do like memory expansion, Flash, TRUE Multitasking and more. Plus the fact that the iPhone can easily be hacked when locked is absurd. (http://www.lieconomy.com/li/columnists/daveg/hist/060710.htm) Let’s face it, Apple users are in denial and it’s only a matter of time before Apple itself is buried and gone for good.See more here: http://bit.ly/dI3hcF
so true
u shouldn’t put an article dated “Monday, June 7th, 2010”
I’ll leave you with this a quote form an article i just read. ” I beleive Ios is for everybody, but Android is for those who can think for themselves.” so which are you really?
+1! This is what I’ve been saying for years!
Not sure why everyone is getting upset. He’s just trying to be the M.G. Seigler of this site. Cause controversy and get easy page views.
Wow there are over 100 comments already and their all filled with android lovers and fanatics, you know when people try to explain to androidfans that iOS and apple is much better in all aspects against android they all get butthurt and their feelings get hurt because they know it’s true that the iPhone is a much better product overall, all of these people here comparing the galaxy s II and sensation and all these dual core phones to the apple iPhone 4 and 3G and 3GS are out of their goddamn mind and are mindless retards because the iPhone 4 is already more than a year old and the reason why these phones are better hardware-wise is because they’ve recently been released a year later when more advanced hardware has been accepted. Android fans are so desperate and sensitive about their phones that they try to justify their just released phones against a phone thats been out for more than a year now and IS STILL BEING RECOGNIZED AND CONSIDERED AS COMPETITION FOR “TOP OF THE LINE” ANDROID PHONES RELEASED NOW AND THAT FACT SPEAKS FOR ITSELF, when your out in the subway or wherever you go you see tons and tons of people using iPhones EVERYWHEREE and probably a bunch of people here and there using all different kinds of android devices and taking to note that the iPhone 4 is only one product and still today there are many people using the iPhone 3GS and even the 3G. NOT TO MENTION the Apples AppStore and how great it’s apps are. The android AppStore cannot compare point blank period and no one can argue that. So when the new iPhone 5 comes around this fall with all these great specs and hardware and a great quality built phone that is extremely elegant and top of the line in all aspects along with the new iOS 5 software, all of you can happily then start to try and compare with other android product which many of you will be in denial and act like TOTAL HIPPOCRITES lining up outside the apple store once it is released feening for one meanwhile your here talking shit about apple. Pathetic, silly, hippcritical, senseless, in denial androidfreakotoids who think they know it all and decide to hate apple because your all jealous their products are the best and everyone and their mother has one. The iPhone is THE SHIT. point blank period.
hmm well i’d say you are being rather hypocritical here. you start off by completely dismissing people defending their choice because it isn’t your own without even taking time to consider the fact there may be valid points. 100 comments many addressing specific aspects and features that make android better in great detail, your effort: iOS wins. congratulations on your stellar review. let me guess, it’s better because when you bought it you were promised it was the best right? you’re right about one thing, iPhone is definitely shit. had an article been written comparing an HTC sensation to an apple newton, which is essentially what has been done here on the opposite end, you’d be just as likely to chime in with your $.02. you fail to mention one single way in which iOS is “much better in all aspects”, while the 100 comments pretty much shut your mouth entirely on the subject. it’s overwhelmingly laughable that you’d say android owners are “god damned mindless retards” when this is actually the stereotype of apple users. thanks for actually living up to those expectations, glad you’re all consistently apathetic to genuine debates. why are android users desperate again? many android handsets actually cost more than iphones, so they could have easily gotten an iphone had they wanted one, and give the fact they work on all carriers now, and android is absolutely smoking apple, i’d say the majority has spoken pal. judging from your blissful ignorance of any leveling sort of facts i’d actually venture to say you’ve probably never even used an iphone. if you have you’ve glanced at it, willingly reluctant to actually explore it because deep down you know, you know it can do everything your phone doesn’t, and if you don’t think your phone has limitations feel free to actually freaking read the comments here. you say repeatedly that the garbage spewing out of your finger tips can’t be argued, but you’re commenting amidst a sea of just that. there are plenty of android handsets that came out a year ago that are still very powerful kid, the nexus one, almost 2 years and it’s still on fire in the development community as a golden standard. you might want to also set your keyboard spellcheck on high because if your deer in headlights stare-down argument wasn’t enough to embarrass you, your complete lack of regard of the english language should finish that off quite nicely. oh wait, you can’t customize how your keyboard types, sorry i forgot. “mindless retards” “lining up outside the apple store” hmmm….yeah those two sentence fragments work quite nicely together. nobody is saying iOS is worthless here, but you certainly seem to make that generalization for the competition. i challenge you to show off one single feature on iOS that android can’t do better, just one.
android* not iphone in the obvious spot
Hahaha!! Hunnybunny relllaaaaxxx!!!…you’ve just proved my point about android lovers! Once you guys feel offended or somebody else points out that iOS and the iPhone is sooo much better than android you automatically feel offended that the product that you originally bought(android) is inferior to the iPhone. The only place where android has an advantage over the iPhone right now is in the hardware but with all these different companies making loads of new android phones every month or 2 weeks your phone will be obsolete in a very short time frame my love. And also noting that it’s common sense that android has the lead with the hardware since the iPhone 4’s been out for more than a year AND IT’S STILL PROVING TO BE COMPETITION FOR THESE TOP OF THE LINE ANDROID PHONES. explain that!! Exactly you can’t explain that because your just a fandroid and a geekatoid who is just interested in the spec sheet of a phone meanwhile the operating system that android has is pure shit!. Yes I’ve used android before so don’t tell me anything I dont already know, it is an attractive operating system I’m not going to lie, BUT it is super buggy, laggy, virus-infested, glitchy, battery hogging, huge screens that look almost like a tablet computer instead of a phone, very few apps and mostly all of the apps the android AppStore has is pure crap, low quality and unpolished. So now you were asking me to point out things that make the iPhone 4/iOS better than android/everyphoneyoucanname? Well let’s start off with the build quality my dear. The iPhone 4 has the best build quality out of all the phones on the market right now. It is made out of stainless steel and glass meanwhile android phones are mAde out of cheap plastic and cheap polycarbonate and metal. Although android phones boast to have 8 megapixel cameras and the iPhone only has 5 megapixels, the iPhone still takes better quality pictures than androids cameras. You can search in google which phones have the best cameras nd the iPhone 4 is considered #1 in many websites and polls, comparisons and picture sharing sites. Another thing is the software. I could go on for days explaining this to you but it will never go through your thick android infested skull. iOS is an amazing platform that is very simplistic and everything just works, the software allows for a smooth touchscreen experience all throughout your time using the phone, everything including apps to graphics etc are way more polished and better looking than androids and Everyones always said that it’s a fact not even an opinion you must be stupid not to notice the level of quality between android and iOS. Another thing is battery life. The iPhone lasts me about 1 day of heavy usage before I have to charge again, I can’t say the same for android phones they are battery hogs especially with all the 3D, 4G, features built into them which are worthless like who really needs a phone with 3D PLEASEEEE! you got to be kidding me right now gtfoh!!! Nd with 4G I tried testing it at different carriers stores and 4G is only in certain areas it’s not even everywhere and it drains battery like crazy, 3G is perfectly fine for right now later on I know that apple will implement 4G the right way because they actually know what they are doing and are revolutionary in terms of everything they create unlike android. And all these android phones are so thick and gigantic I bet it doesnt even fit inside most peoples pocket!. A 3.5″-4″ screen is good enough not no 4.3 inch either your crazy or smoking some good stuff and need prescription glasses to see better. Everything you said just makes me laugh because all you was focusing on is trying to change certain things I said around and make it sound the complete opposite and tried telling me I need help in the English language. Pleassseee I bet I could write a much better essay than you ever will don’t come at me with your know it all attitude just because you know some big scary dictionary words doesn’t mean your smart or that you actually know what your saying. If anything everything you said was too deep like if every sentence you wrote was supposed to have a deeper meaning or just trying to make your self seem smarter. Uhhh no! Try again lady! How you feeling now sugasuga, I know it hurts when your wrong and I’m right. Apple is the best in the game right now nd once the iPhone 5 comes out you will EAT YOUR WORDS, im hoping I don’t see you waiting outside the apple store in a line when the iPhone 5’s released because I already know that’s what your going to do. Hypocrite.
The build quality is so flawed that it requires a case to make. Phone call, you’ve failed harder than anyone I’ve ever seen having this discussion anywhere, your argument amounts to “i know you are but what am i”
Thanks for proving that Apple lovers are uninformed consumers once again, if you rely on search results and polls to determine what’s the best, you know what that makes you? Sheep, congrats on not touching on the points of this discussion where people have noted that android can be heavily customized to be faster and smoother than ios, I’m guessing that’s a moot point to you as you are seemingly incapable of sounding intelligent, I’m assuming you are also incapable of using software that isn’t spoonfed to you. Ios is popular amongst people who don’t want to think, kids, old people, elitists. Anyone that does think objectively would have a hard time coming to the conclusion to purchase one. Sorry, you can scream theyre better all day, but the only thing you mentioned really was build quality, which is aesthetic, but then again, that puts you right into your self defined previous mold of fanboy, aesthetics matter more than functionality? Lol thanks for making my day with that post, I’m going to hang that up in the office today so we can all have a good chuckle, I’m a developer with a MCSE CNA. Just in case you were wondering, my company has apps in the android market as well as the app store, we charge Apple users and offer android version for free, because we know Apple users pay for anything, although, we actually see more revenue on android with ads. There’s only one iPhone in the office for testing, everyone is using android or wp7, and I work with some brilliant minds. Oh hey sorry for the dictionary words, next time I’ll make up words, would that be better?
Yeah yeah yeah if it makes you feel better that your phones are superior to a phone thats been out for more than a year than yours katiepea are seriously a pathetic loser. First of all there are many idiots out there including you that keep on saying that the phone needs a case to make a phone call or work. Well let me tell you booboo, you are god damned wrong!!! Who told you that lie? I am using my iPhone 4 naked right now with no case on and was previously on a phone call for 4 hours before this while at the same time playing a game on it so I don’t know where you are coming from with that bullcrap. Everyone knows now that antennagate was a made up problem I’ve never had that problem with my iPhone 4 including everyone else that I know has one. So your point is flawed and invalid and FALSE! the phone does work without a case BUILD A BRIDGE AND GET OVER IT WOMAN! that’s not a weakness on the iPhone 4 it never existed so try again. Nd whoever said you can’t customize an iPhone, again you are foolish because if you say you are so skilled and smart at customizing your phone then you would know. I have a jailbroken iPhone 4. Only took less than 5 minutes to jailbreak and guess what?! You can customize whatever the HE’LL YOU WANT!. I can customize the colors of my status bar, the bars that show reception, you can put thousands of themes on the iPhone, there are hundreds of tweaks out there. I can take screenshots with my iPhone which android cannot. I have sbsettings that when I swipe on the top I get quick access to settings like wifi brightness, location, etc. I can download files from the Internet and save them in ifile. I can put live wallpapers in my background just like android, there’s a app called the dreamstore and you can change the layout and look of iOS and change it to other looks like WP7, android os, blackberry os6 along with many different other ones which change the look entirely, there are unlimited ways I can organize and customize my iPhone because just like how you all fandroids hack android devices nd root them I can jailbreak my iPhone and it’s the exact same thing the customization is limitless…so everyone commenting on here don’t know anything about a jailbroken iPhone. I can customize my iPhone how ever I want to! You all just don’t know how to do it. So don’t say it doesn’t exist because you know nothing!
Another thing. I don’t rely on polls and stuff like that to tell me what’s the best. I own an iPhone 4 and every picture I take comes out even better than my digital camera ive seen other android phones cameras and they are not as good as the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 has backlight illumination technology built into their camera and the actual lens and the glass is made out of better quality. Android phones just throw in 8 megapixel cameras in their phone because mostly everyone is uneducated in the camera field and the public doesn’t know that more megapixels doesn’t equal better quality. they don’t know that it’s not the amount of megapixels that determines the quality of a picture it’s the lens and the quality of the glass nd not the megapixels. What megapixels means is how big the picture will be and unless your gonna want to print out a huge picture from your phone you don’t really need so many megapixels..5 megapixels is fine enough if anything it just makes pictures look more pixelated because it’s making the picture larger which decreases picture quality. How you feeling Now!!!! Nd If you don’t believe me then go research it yourself because you probably think your so smart when your actually not you just hide your stupidity behind your big vocabulary words hahaha. What a lame. So don’t come over here with your whole geeksquad of freakotoids and fandroids and try to make apple and the iPhone look bad when it’s the best selling phone out right now. Imma call all of you geektoids out right now and put all of you in your place. No other single phone has surpassed it in product sales. There’s a reason why people prefer the iPhone and no it’s not only for old people and kids it’s also for smart individuals that actually have a life and want a sophisticated and classy type of phone they can walk anywhere with and feel good about themselves, a phone that can resolve all of their problems and find quick solutions. A phone that is only available in the top two best carriers in The united states which is verizon and At&t. Meanwhile android is rolling with everyone and their mothers along with metropcshit and virgin mobile boost mobile and all the cheap ones out there. People prefer to have iPhones because of the supreme feel it has, the amazing software it wields, the functionality of the OS, the consistency of it’s apps which are number one and the one where developers actually wanna make apps for because Thats where the moneys at. And your completely right on that point. You make free apps for android but make paid apps for the iPhone because you know iPhone users are top of the line people with money and great consumers meanwhile android users are cheap, just want to get free apps so that’s all they get is mediocre free apps and very few paid ones because they know no one will buy them. MY POINT EXACTLY. you know what many iPhone users don’t really need to explain or argue that our phones are better than android most of the time we just let all you androidfans ramble about your customization and this and that and blah blah blah and you then get your panties in a bunch and feel the need to prove yourselves many of us don’t feel the need to becAuse we are confident our iPhones are the best phones out there right now. The phone everyone wants. The phone that has great resale value meanwhile icant say the same for android products. The fact that apple keeps their products a secret and create so much controversy and have massive lines at launch. All of which android is not capable of. Android leaks all their products and throw them around to everyone to test out and use and after a certain amount of time they lower their prices until they are buy one get two free and with the iPhone that is never the case always the same price and it only changes after a new product has been introduced which shows how premium the iPhone and iOS really is. So how you feeling now? You can’t tell me lies in my face when the facts are written everywhere you go. I garantee you the phone that most people have out there is an iPhone. The best phone by far thats it period end of discussion FINITO!.
Get some decent Droid hardware and you won’t have smoothness issues with the interface. Droid is amazing, The complaints in the articles are mostly pointless and due to inferior hardware selection. I really don’t have any issues with iPhone. If someone wants an iPhone that is great. But, after trying both I’m a droid user now. I prefer the open architecture/open source nature of the OS and I like the idea that there are many manufacturers of droid phones. That in my opinion has always been the issue with Apple; closed community, closed architecture, close operating system, fixed pricing and options. The one time Apple tried licensing agreements for cloned Macs it was a disaster as Apple freaked out and could not handle being big brother.
As far as the App market versus App Store thing… yeah well, there are a lot more apps for the iPhone. Give it time until developers gain a foot hold in the droid market. As far as there being no control over droid apps; yeah that comes with the open sourced territory… apple is not about technology in case you haven;t noticed. They are obsessive compulsive about control; even after you purchase the hardware they still want full control of the product. That works for some people in some situations. But for me it just does not work at all.
Now, I;ve been using Apple products all the way back to the Apple IIe right through to Mac Classic to System 6, 7, 8, 9 and Mac OS X. I’ve also been using many other products over the decades, as I refused to join the Apple Fanboy club. Droid does it for me on phones. Droid works and it works amazingly well; the voice search is a life saver for me. The google mapping is a life saver for me. The gmail integration is a life saver for me. The way the UI works is amazing.
If you have ever spent any time on Linux then Droid makes perfect sense. Anyway, my friends with their iPhone are pretty cool… that is until I bring out my Droid and they all freak out at the stuff it can do that the iPhone can’t even dream of doing.
Oh I forgot to comment on the use of flash content on my droid phone. I’ve never had a problem with flash on Droid at all. All the flash content I view on my droid phone works amazingly well; the only issue I could ever think of would be that flash developers haven’t yet considered displaying their content on phones so sometimes they have designed something to work only with mouse that has two buttons; however, right or left clicking on Droid is not terribly hard to do, just a little tricky sometimes. Regardless, flash works amazingly well on my Droid phone; so well in fact I often prefer to view flash content within Firefox on my Droid then bother turning on my computer at home.
I mean when your Droid phone works so well with flash and javascript and all things web that you prefer the portability of just picking up the phone to view web content to waiting for the computer to start up… that is a damned good phone with a damned good operating system.
You obviously don’t develop because you would realize how awesome Android is. Apple is trying to be a monopoly and everyone knows what happened when Microsoft tried to do that. Browsers started popping out from companies, Mozilla and Chrome, and nobody wanted to us IE. The more operable and usable a phone can be, the better. Apple/Iphone has so many restrictions on everything. I don’t want itunes, I’d rather stream Pandora because itunes doesn’t play music for free. Its a shitty service and what do I get from them? Nothing. At least with Google/Android, I get real time maps and awesome GPS. Google trumps Apple hands down.
Developers don’t seem too pleased with Android.

@George do say the new iPhone v the new nexus, then we will see if ur opinion changes …
I recently read an article about Android and shocked to find out, at the current versions, there is no hardware acceleration for graphics in Android 1-2-3 series, ‘cos by the time it was developed, having a dedicated GPUs was unheard of. So iPhone since first version has a dedicated graphics core to make all those animations so smooth, whereas on Android phones all the weight is on CPU..
LOL, The Commentators are really funny. You guys says that George is an APPLE FAN BOY but all of you guys are acting like an ANDROID fan boy. This is just CRAZZY! You guys are behaving like a SUBJECT of two separate KINGS.
Guys One thing is for sure, All of you are paying money for the devices you own, so if there is imperfection in any devices be it Iphone, Ipad, galaxy or any shit………Don’t deny it, Stick it to the companies so that they make one.
I use MacBook Pro and LOVE the Iphone and the Ipad but man there are some really STICKY ISSUES with the Mac OPERATING SYSTEM.
Microsoft have such GREAT Tech LAYING EGGS in their R&Ds man, There is nothing coming out of it. This is the problem with every BLOATED Company.
