Stargate Studios: Evolution Of The Green Screen
February 20, 2011 06:51 PM

Everyone knows that studios heavily use green screens in film and television, but I have always wondered how scenes originally looked. My wish recently came through when I stumbled across the Vimeo Channel for Stargate Studios which offers high-definition before and after shots. The company provides both visual effects and “Virtual Backlots” services, which can place actors in over 30 cities with some pre-filmed content and the power of green screen technology.

Stargate Studios works on currently running shows including The Event, Grey’s Anatomy, and The Walking Dead. Their portfolio also includes popular television shows such as 24, Heroes, Monk, and Ugly Betty which are now cancelled. After making my way through a few of these reels, it will probably be hard to watch another TV show again without wondering about when green screens are in use. I simply did not realize the extent of this technology.

Is it just me or is anyone else amazed? If you have seen something similar before or have other similar before and after shots, feel free to share in the comments below!
