By I was playing around with the PSP and I wanted to play a multiplayer game with my friend. But because he did not have the game I was trying to figure out a way to play with only one copy. And I found out that it is actually pretty easy. I tested the game with Twisted Metal and it worked great. To play any multiplayer game on a Sony PSP with only one copy of a game, do the following:
- Place the game into the 1st PSP. Start the game. Start a Multiplayer Ad-Hoc game. (Set the time to unlimited because moving the game between the units takes a while.) Get everything ready, settings ect., except do not enter the game.
- Now remove the game from the unit. A message will appear asking whether you want to exit the game, say NO! The game should go back to the setting screen, where it is waiting for you to press start. (Don’t press start yet on PSP #1)
- Now take the game and place it into the 2nd PSP. Start the game. Now go to Ad-Hoc games and find the server that the other PSP has already started. Once you find the game enter it after choose your personal settings.
- Once the game is done loading on PSP #2 take it out and put it back into unit #1. And press start and it should load into the game!
- And now you are playing each other on two PSPs with only one copy of the game. And if you want to, you can do this with up to as many units as you wish. As long as the game supports that many players.
This works great, but I bet you Sony doesn’t like it. Also to be on the safe side I removed my memorystick to prevent any possible data loss if the unit freezes. Also when you want to exit the game it might freeze. And even trying to power off the unit might not work. To solve this problem just place the game into the frozen PSP and it will do some loading and then resume normally. Any more questions? Then make a comment and I will help you if I can.Update: There have been many comments saying that this does not work, but I tested it with Twisted Metal, Need for Speed, Tony Hawk, and a few others and they worked fine. Update: I tested them multiple times, but I actually found that it is working perfectly on the PSPs with FirmWare v1.50. But when I tried it with PSPs with FirmWare v1.52 it couldn’t connect both of the PSPs together. I have not tried v1.51 so please make a comment u have tried it with it. (07/08/05)
Update: (07/27/05) First I would like to say that the my Multiplayer PSP hack does in fact work with v1.52! There needs to be a few changes made to the procedure and it will work just fine! I am going to be posting the new set of instructions soon so check the main page of my blog. Also Sony announced some new FirmWare Updates for the PSP v2.0, which will work with Sonic Stage 3.2! – link

sony psps are better than any nintendo product for a fact. no one should even try to argue with that. (im not an anti-nintendo person or anything as i am an owner of a N64 as well as 3 gameboys.) you can play multiplayer just fine except you will need a copy of the game per unit just like any other gaming system. all this site is showing is how to trick the unit into playing with a single copy of the game. (nice tutorial btw) and anyways as far as i know you can only play multiplayer games on DS’s with multiple copies of the game. correct me if i am wrong
yes you CAN use multiplayer on nintendo ds (check out super mario 64 DS) my family currently has three DS’s and the multiplayer works fine. NOTICE-multiplayer is on multiplayer wireless compatible games only otherwise you will need two cards to play multiplayer and if there is no multiplayer then that game sucks. our family also has ONE PSP and wanting more. PSP is so much more versatile than nintendo DS, to bad about the freezing when single copy game sharing though! But that was a TUTORIAL and not an OFFICIAL GUIDE. can’t wait until somebody knocks on sony’s door and pops ’em one in the nose for not allowing multiplayer on EVERY game. so has anyone tryed it with Coded Arms yet?

Hi,I’m thinking about getting a sony psp,but im wondering about the WiFi connection,can u connect from a networked computer at a house or do u have 2 go 2 a “hotspot”as they call it,can u plz tell me excatlly wat a hotspot is if it say like a shopping centre or airport and so on.and how long is the WiFi conncetion is it like 100 mtres or 200 mtres plz tell me by e-mail=Sgt.terd@hotmail.com

your obviously don’t know much about computers to here’s the breakdown. First a WiFi connection is free if you have DSL or Cable at your home. A psp just connects to the wifi router if you want to go online with the webbrowser or play online games which support infastructure mode. most psp games work localy just by being near other psps and no hardware is required to play each other localy other than the psps themselves. An averge WiFi router you have at home usually costs about $30-40 and it will reach about 200 feet. if you are away from your home and you want to use the network you only need to pay for the connection. many times you can find open networks and use them other times places like starbucks give a code to use if you buy something and oteher times they charge you per hour or that sort of thing. the psp is one of the best portable units available at the time so i reccomend getting it.

yongy, it works fine for me and all my friends and seems to work for most games. you either are doing it wrong or have games that don’t support that.

I was with my buddy and i’ve heard of the multyplayer single umd trick. so we linked up our psp’s.
My firmware version is 1.50 and his is 2.00.
I can Confirm that Coded Arms Works with one umd.
The only things i did different was switching the umd right after it reached 100%loaded as opposed to waiting 8-10 seconds, and when the “do you want to quit” menu comes up I left it there till the other one was done. I noticed when i did that the network didn’t time out(“connection lost”) like it did when i followed the method stated above.
heres what i did in detail.
1. turn on both psp’s
2. start the game on the host psp
3. select network game-> host
4. pick your map settings and such
5. swap the umd into the other psp.
6. goto multiplayer-> find game
7. the game name should be the name of the hosts save file,(likely the only one in the list). Select it.
8. give ready signals.
9. swap game back into host psp and start the game
10. let the first psp load,(you’ll notice the second psp’s screen turn’s to a blackish color, dont worry.)Just after after it reaches 100% pop it out and put it into the other psp, leaving the “do you want to quit” menu open. let the other one load.
11.When it’s finished loading the game will start.

um just so u know all the playstations are nintendos designs, its just that sony sponsers the making of them and nintendo makes the first one and then sony makes the rest thats why sonys name is on it. and sony also makes changes to it

Sony and nintendo teamed up first to create the Playstation 1, but after some research or some stupid reason, Nintendo decided to pull out and let Sony take it and decided to go for cartridge games rather than on CD.
Does anyone have a complete list of games that this will work on. I have hotshots golf, ape escape on the loose nba 05, nfl street unleashed, world tour soccer, death jr , detroit hustle, lumines, twisted metal, atv offroad, pi, pacman world 2 and need for speed.

Help, I cant load any UMD’s …they spin around and freeze everything on startup..then I eject it and get browser, pics, memory stick all working, but no UMD’s..can anyone helpme?
I got ridge racer to work fine,midnight club 3 (dub Edition does’nt seem to,and locked me in game(could’nt quit)I had to take out battery,so not to keen to try anything else incase it damages something?,I have Fifa 06 anyone tried it ?
