I’m also tired of these side-by-side specs. I want someone to use each of these phones for a week and see how they compare. I want them to compare ease-of-use as well as speed. They should also go into a dead spot for each network and try to use the phone there and see how easy it is to cope.
Then will we have a comparison.
Also, 600,000 preorders and many more sold on launch date say Apple has to be doing something right…And I’m not even an Apple fanboy. I have a PC and a Blackberry.
You can always do the 30 day free trial thing with Sprint! I may do this if my pre-order phone ever comes in…
600,000 pre-orders? the pre- part kind of indicates a brand-name purchase that’s inherently biased if they bought it before even using it. Leading back into “Defending the phone my identity is caught up in”.
The only thing that give me pause with getting an EVO is the fact you can not use it internationally. I travel a lot and really need a phone that I can take with me everywhere… Also, I hear the battery life is a bit of a joke. My iPhone battery is terrible. I have to carry my phone AND a little backup charger all the time. The iPhone 4 is supposed to have a much better battery life but we’ll see. If the Droid X had a front facing camera, then it would be a no-brainer for me.
Also, not sure that Sprint is so cheap… I pay about $75 total for my iPhone unlimited plan with ATT and I pay an additional $65 for a family share plan on Verizon. The Sprint family share plan with the data will be about $15 more a month! Yeah, it’s not much but it’s pretty ridiculous. The Verizon share plan would be much cheaper….
My friend went to India and was able to use Sprint phone in India, naturally got charged high roaming international charge. So, stop with the missinformation.
1.3 billion people in China has access to CDMA network. 1.2 Billion people in India has access to CDMA network through Reliance telecom, TATA etc…
Sprint is selling International phones on it’s website. So, please stop with the GSM CRAP missinformations.
AAPL and iCRAP fanboys are all about spreading missinformation and LYING and DENIALS and EXCUSES. Jobs is lying about his nasty emails to customers
Wow, I would say at least 50% of the comments here are astrosurfing…sad.
sure the iphone has the best touch and battery technology and I admire that.
I have to say though that the android competition is so great that the new phones coming out before the next iphone will come out (at least 1 year from now) will be quite above the iphone that is about to ship.
Apple should consolidate its market by allowing more carriers to have it. And drive down plans prices by enabling the users to switch carriers whenever they wont. but I fear it wont come before the next 2 years.
All the Iphone haters on here stating facts about how their NON-REMOVABLE BATTERY is better, their TOUCH SCREEN RESPONSES better, their 5MP CAMERA TAKES BETTER PICTURES & that their SCREEN RESOLUTION IS better are all APPLE PR TROLLS! lol that’s all they can say about us Evo lovers. Continue to suck on Apples Pee Pee cause they’ll continue to take your money with useless upgrades every year. Enjoy your Iphones & your Apps. I’m happy with my Android 2.2, my short battery life with EXTRA BATTERY, my 3G/4G video calling, my 8MP camera, my actually very responsive touch screen & my HTC EVO 4G! :]
PS: I AM NOT AN EVO PR TROLL :]

FIRST ARTICLE ON YAHOO how funny!
Whoa, the Iphone lovers seem pretty peeved at the world. I have recently purchased the EVO 4G, and couldn’t be happier. Let me ask the Iphone lovers some questions…
1. can you insure the Iphone yet
2. why do you pay so much for a service with such poor performance (AT&T)
3. Why do you always repeat the same talking points about the EVO.
4. if AT&T is so great, why is Apple planning to jump ship to verizon
5. do you really believe that a 5megapix cam with one led flash is better
than a 8 megapix cam with dual led flash
6. i already have a real spare battery for my EVO. not some huge battery pack
7. I can use as many micro sd cards I want. Can you even open a Iphone
8. and Sprints plan IS BETTER and CHEAPER than AT&T and Verizons. I checked
In the end, it’s just a choice. Why insult anyone……..and you call yourselves smarter. LMAO
And what’s funny about the new Iphone is how it didn’t work at the BIG premier that Steve Jobs held for it. He really looked mad and confused at that premier. He even had the nerve to ask people in the audience to turn their cell phones off so the AT&T network would clear up. Now that’s pathetic.
The last thing I’ll say is this…how can you come out with your top device, and all over the internet, the talk is how terrible the reception is. And the response from Apple is ” a fix is on the way”. I read in alot of staements above about how a group of hundreds of software, and hardware know-it-alls are sitting around every second of every day making the new Iphone 4 the best cell phone in the United States. Again, i’m not hating, just saying….LMAO
iTARD iSUCKER for any iCRAPS
I don’t like my calls iDROPPED
I don’t like my signals iDROPPED
I don’t like my signals iFAKED, iNFLATED, or iLIED TO
I don’t like to be iSCAMMED
Why do people come on websites like this and argue? Some people like one phone for a particular reason, or dislike another for a particular reason. Just like cars, computers, etc, everyone has reasons for liking or not liking a certain type or model. We all want to know the facts of the phone, but who cares if someone states they don’t like one of the phones. Speak your opinion and let others speak theirs. One of you called another “an EVO PR troll” but then continued to write back and tell everyone how awesome the iphone is. Couldn’t that person call you an “iphone PR troll?” I mean really people, do you care THAT much that one person is writing why they like or dislike a phone?? Would you be that butt-hurt if they told you they didn’t like the same cars as you? Let people speak their opinion without coming on here acting like a child and name calling or bashing that person for liking something you don’t. And if they have a reason for liking/not liking that phone, it doesn’t make it a bad reason or non-legitimate reason just because you don’t agree. Facts are facts but if I choose to like a phone because of a simple reason like “it has better screen quality” even if it lacks in other areas.. that’s my choice. Maybe all of the other bells and whistles don’t mean as much to me, maybe I don’t use them, or maybe I just don’t care and want one carrier because of plans so choose to like that phone better and that is my own business. State your opinion let others have theirs, and move on. GOOD LORD!!!!!!

Couple of friends of mine have the iPhone 4 and I just have to say…wow…the screen resolution is amazing. Way better then I expected it to be.
i have an evo because i have sprint. i would have gotten an iphone when they first came out but for one major factor, ATT!!! I have had terrible service when it was cingular. i am a mac person and would love the iphone. this evo blows my blackberry curve and every other phone i have ever had out of the water. I have had battery issues with all the phones, just need to have a charger around. small price to pay.
I own many apple products- Macbook Pro, Final Cut Studio, iPod Touch, etc. I was unbelievably excited for my iphone 4 pre-order, and even screamed when the box was delivered. While unwrapping the package and activating the phone, I was in heaven- such an amazing design, so much sleeker than the 3GS… and the screen resolution was epic. Facetime is probably the best quality phone video chatting on the market, and this phone is relatively quick in comparison to other smart phones I have researched.
The iPhone 4 is the equivalent of a Ferrari…. that is, a Ferrari that has no engine to run. You play with it and customize it, but It can’t do what it was made for- phone calls! It’s such a nice phone to look at and to play with- apps and whatnot- but every call I have made within the last 4 days, have dropped half way through the call. Every last one. I’ve tried the new cases and even listened to Steve’s memo about holding the phone the right way, but I still can’t seem to get it right- and I live in a huge city.
I’m planning on returning the iPhone 4 for a new EVO next week.
I would advise first seeing if a replacement iPhone is any better. Since you call yourself “Apple Lover!” you’re clearly a big fan of the consistent look and feel to Apple software. The EVO and other top-tier Android phones are great, but you lose that Apple-like interface feel & consistency with Android. I’m saying this because I was in a similar position as you months ago and wound up switching to Android, only to then switch back recently.
I think i would rather have a phone that i can actually call people on. Considering that well gee… IM LEFT HANDED! Or the face that my phone wont break if i drop it a maximum of 4 times. OR the fact that the evos “lower quality screen” Doesnt have a bunch of yellow spots showing up when i SHOULD be able to read a web page… XD thats just some LOGIC for you ^_^ EVO is cell phone Jesus =)
Features / Smeatures ..blah blah blah. 3 Gig, 8 Gig, 12 Gajillion Gig.
The iPhone is closed and it doesn’t run Flash. I don’t care what any of the ‘PR Trolls’ from either side think. What matters to me when I purchase a phone is about what I want. And I want Flash. So I’ll buy an Android
… see it’s really so simple. Nothing to argue about. My family will still own their iPhones cuz they like it. Fine by me!
OMFG, a reasoned out purchase? You’re going to scare the brand zombies. Oh wait, that’s just Mac users (because it seems that all the Iphanatics here are hardcore mac all the way and can’t resist namedropping all the other mac toys they bought). Anyways, please no more stat listing as THEY’RE ALL ALREADY AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE. I would prefer some actual instances (on both sides) where the applications of the phone (in the proper sense, not “apps”) actually made your experience easier.
Like this guy here.
It seems that most people already made up their mind and are simply trying to justify the decision that they’ve already made (based on the phone they bought). A decision like this is guaranteed to be biased. Personally, I am having a hard time choosing between these 3 phones because they all have some features that are better than those of the competition. I don’t think there is a clear winner, and I don’t understand why people can’t accept that it may be a matter of preference. Personally, I prefer the big screen, but someone else may prefer a smaller one. Give it a rest.
Droid X all the way! Tried the iPhone, not for me. Tried HTC Sense, too resource intensive for my tastes. Not too fond of the short battery life of the Evo either. July 15th!
Wow alot of Crapple fanboys in here. I’ll just stick to my HD2 and the “horrid” WinMo 6.5. I get a great signal, decent data speeds, and am familiar with it. I know the stats arent the best for my phone, but the HD2/snapdragon will be fine till xmas when the new batch of phones will blow all this sh!t outta the water anyways. (1.5 Ghz on the horizion!) This discussion is like comparing an Evo, Sti, and Audi. They are ALL excellent cars, each having their hi’s and low’s. It is a matter of opinion which is “best”.
HI,
Droid is having physical keyboard. Could you check it?
Droid 2 (no set release date) will have one. The Droid X, which is being compared, does not.
I don’t even get where the paid troll thing is coming from. I hope you guys aren’t serious. No one is getting paid to post inflammatory comments on some gadget blog infographic. Yes, I’m getting the Droid X, not because it is the BEST PHONE EVER, but because I’m pretty sure you can make calls with it. Unlike the iPhone.
And no Evo because hey, I have a Verizon plan now with a data plan, and I don’t see any particular reason to switch over. 4G is the leading explanation, but its not in my area, and isn’t coming soon. The only thing I wish I had is that front facing camera, and that’s certainly not reason enough to get an Evo.
You know, they all look like pretty good phones. Upgrading from a 3 year old blackberry, the advances in all are incredible, and the differences seem negligible at best. All said and done, though, at the end of the day I use my phone to call people. I use my laptop for games, and an ipod for music, and I think I’m looking at the droidX as it seems to have the most balanced areas that work for MY life. The areas where it doesn’t excel are still acceptable.
TBH, I would prefer to get the EVO but that battery life, whew. looking kind of on the small side and kind of a game killer for me.
IDK, I get the feeling that whatever one i pick, I’ll be happy with so long as it works consistently well. I have concerns with iPhones non-removable battery, AT&T exclusivity (with punishing data package plans), I frankly barely care about apps and am more interested in how productive the phone will actually be, which brings me to the actually speaking on it part. Yeah, that’s a big one for me.
Not to mention the attitude of iPhanatics is downright offensive, both literally and morally. I don’t really want to be part of a group that is so reactionary. It reminds me of bible-belt/shiite muslim/orthodox judaism mentality. (I figured I’d bring in all three major religion fanatic sects. Just to be fair)
I’d like to think that not being a paid PR troll would be defense enough against not being called one, but apparantly iPhone defenders feel that if you don’t have one, you aren’t smart enough to have a cogent argument for getting a different phone. Poor show, guys, poor show.
EVO 4G is 8 laptops hotspot, iPhone4 NONE
EVO 4G has FM radio, iPhone NOT
EVO 4G has HDMI outlet to TV, iPhone NOT
EVO 4G has 8mp camarra, iPhone 5mp
EVO 4G runs on 3G & 4G network, iPhone runs only on 3G only, has ZEROOOO 4G and can’t run on any 4G network at all.
EVO 4G video chats over WiFi and Cell network 3G/4G; iPhone only over WiFi and NOT cell network.
EVO 4G can remove battery, iPhone NOT
EVO 4G has kickstand, iPhone NOT
EVO 4G is 4 times faster than iPhone4
EVO 4G has too many functions iPhone4 doesn’t have
EVO 4G does everything faster than iPhone4.
I guarantee all of these phones are going to be considered a bad blowjob by the time 2015 comes around. By then, internet on ALL phones will come standardized and most likely will be free or very cheap. The cameras will be of professional grade, and the size of the phone will be smaller. Everyone who is reserving one is dumb and needs to reconsider their decision on getting any of these bad deals. The reality is all of these companies have the next five or six phones already made and are awaiting their release. Come on guys, THINK. These are multi billion dollar companies and THIS is the best they can offer?! This is just a money hype and they know that by making it all flashy they can make millions. A smart company would never crush an opponent and reveal their best hardware. Instead they will tread the lines and stay toe to toe with the ‘next best’ so they dont lose their trump card. its common sense people.
Ive been studying phones for the last 4 months and have been keeping up to date with all the latest hardware and software on all carriers. I eventually narrowed it down to of course HTC EVO, iPhone 4, Droid X. Now I have owned an iPhone 2g and 3gs and i loved them. When iPhone 4 was released i was very dissapointed. It boasts that it has such amazing features that keep it on the cutting edge of the market but when it was released i died a little inside. The speed of the phone is laughable when compared to the HTC EVO and the Droid X. Though this may be due to AT&T’s overrun network but i did manage to get time with the EVO and iPhone 4 on wireless and the EVO took home the gold. The iPhone 4 screen really impressed me and i seriously doubt there is going to be a phone in the near future that comes close but at the same time alot of the argueing that “iPhone 4 has better picture quality etc” is due to the fact that the screen has such a higher resolution. If you want an accurate portrayal of who the real winner is go ahead and take a few pics with the HTC EVO and the iPhone 4 and hook it up to a TV thats 720p capable. With the HTC EVO you can just plug in the HDMI cord and as for the iPhone it takes a little more work but you can make it happen. When compared there is only a slight difference in the picture quality but the HTC EVO wins. When we look at battery life the iPhone 4 is a clear winner. What the iPhone enthusiasts dont realize is that with the recent OTA update for the HTC EVO increased the battery life on the device tremendously. With the OTA the phone no longer dies in 8hrs under heavy usage and is slightly better then the 3GS (which wasnt amazing but wasnt craptastic). All in all iPhone 4 brings nothing new to the game just major improvements to its iPhone line. The HTC EVO pushes the limit and goes above and beyond in cellular innovation and i think the biggest issue with iPhone fanatics is the acceptance that their phone did nothing new. It wasnt a huge innovation in any regard besides its screen. It didnt push any boundaries and it is run on the very uncustomizable iOS 4 which allows you 100 new features almost all of which were all ready on the Android OS 6-12 months before the iOS 4 update. So in short and once again in my educated opinion the iPhone 4 did nothing but play catch up to the expanding and innovating Android market. Also the iOS 4 now logs where/when and your video chats on apples servers and gives the people at Cupertino a pop up message on their computers indicating these horrible privacy invasive features. Oh and as a little bit of a boost to the whole battery arguement if the OTA for the EVO wasnt enough i mean you can always grab a second battery for 40dollars and just switch them out. What people havent been talking about on this thread is the Droid X which has superior stats to the HTC EVO on paper and functions quicker on some applications then the EVO but then again the EVO was faster on a few when compared side by side with the Droid X. to summerize iPhone 4 is a great phone for iPhone lovers who cant seem to move away from a dying brand that no longer pumps innovation into the market. HTC congratulations on making such a superb phone one which will be comparable and viable as a super-smartphone even a year from now. and Motorola you guys are quickly catching up to the Sense UI with your MotoBlur improvements and the amazing utilization of battery life in a phone that is very familiar to the HTC EVO minus the front facing camera which in reality will become the new form of talking once it is inputted in medium and low end devices which some corporations have all ready said they are doing. Droid X for all your great features you may become outdated in about a year because of that one missing piece of hardware. Altogther they are amazing devices and if you love iPhone stick with it but you shouldnt be cocky as your phone is sub-par in all regards except screen resolution and a battery charge.
You’re welcome to your opinion, but this warrants a response.
“Also the iOS 4 now logs where/when and your video chats on apples servers and gives the people at Cupertino a pop up message on their computers indicating these horrible privacy invasive features.”
This is a rumor without any credible sources, and Apple issued a statement saying “No location information is ever used or stored during FaceTime registration or a FaceTime conversation.”
Okay I’m so tired of these iPhone suck ups. Unlike most of the people on this thread I have owned most of the top smart phone available. I love Apple products, and Steve Jobs is one of my most favorite business owners. You have not used a real computer until you have used a Mac.
Now on to the truth of the matter. The iPhone barely keeps up with the Evo, and shouldn’t even be on the same comparison. Jobs is playing keep up with Google’s open source project, which anyone with common sense will know is not possible. So for the idiot that mentioned the 1000 engineers, try your 1000 compared to 10th times that in open source.
There are so many ways I can go with this but I will just say this , some lady at a conference saw my Evo, and thought if to ne wise to rub her silver and glass glorified piece of crap in my face. Now bare in mind I had just given an iPhone away to my play brother cause he wanted it so bad.
I mentioned to her to leave the issue alone if she truly wanted to be around of her purchase. Long story short she pushed the envelope, and we had to compare phones. After I was able to pull up 3 websites to her 1 flash and all, and show her what real multitasking was about, plus show her thY I was able to truly customize my desktop, and view 7 desktops at 1 time (yes it reminds me of expose on my Mac shame HTC pulled it off first on a phone) oh did I mention this was all on a 3g connection. I didn’t even hit her with my 4g connection cause I did find that it is harder on the battery, and this fight wasn’t even worth pulling out the good stuff.
She called me the next day after speaking with my business account rep to let me know she had switched to Sprint, and save money out the door. Oh and as for the 200,000 apps, my play brother is now bugging me to jailbreak his iPhone so that he can get some REAL APPS.
As for you other Evo owners you will be glad to know that the Evo only gets better as time goes by. The battery life gets better after several recharge cycles , and the performance will male a tremendous jump when the Android 2.2 release comes out.
