After a long awaited time, the a PSP downgrader is finally available! This will allow all PSP owners who have upgraded their PSP to v2.0 to downgrade all the way back to v1.5. (this version will allow using homebrew applications) Also if you have v1.51 or v1.52, you will need to upgrade up to v2.0 and then you will be able to downgrade. If you do downgrade from v2.0 you will always be able to bring back v2.0 by doing the standard update procedure once again.
To downgrade do the following: (read entire post first! notes @ bottom)
- Create the X://PSP/GAME/UPDATE directory if it doesn’t exisit.
- Copy EBOOT.PBP (v1.50) into X://PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder.
- Unzip the PSPdowngrade.zip package and open the folder.
- Copy overflow.tif into X://PSP/PHOTO/ folder.
- Then copy h.bin into the root folder. (X://h.bin)
- Finally copy index.dat into root folder as well (X://index.dat)
- Make sure your AC adaptor is connected.
- In your PSP enter the Photos section, which will launch a little app.
- You will need to wait ~30 seconds and then restart your PSP.
- Then finally Game Menu and launch the v1.5 updater (downgrade).
- Follow instructions and then at 99% an error should popup.
- Thats normal so just restart the PSP and it should show an error.
- Now restart the unit one more time and the PSP should be ready.
Notes: Make sure there are no other Photos other than the overflow image present in the photos folder during this “downgrade” procedure. To restart hold the power button for about 10 seconds once it is off wait 10 seconds and turn it back on. All credit goes to MPH for creating this hack to downgrade PSPs. Please do not use this for illegal purposes (piracy), but use it to use legal homebrew apps and opensource type games. The PSPdowngrade.zip will inculde all of the files required to downgrade your PSP.
Warning: Skatter Tech is only providing information on how to downgrade the PSP. If you PSP does by chance get damaged due to something you tried on this site, we are not going to be responsible so do these at your own risk.

UPDATE: RUN HOMEBREW ON PSP v2.60
awesome! great tip P.S. v2.1 just was released so do NOT upgrade to that other wise you will not be able to do this.
^^^ do not upgrade! i accidentally did it and now my PSP can never run homebrew Stay at firmware 2.0
downgrading from 2.0 to 1.5 works just fine if you get it from pspupdates.com or a trustable site. i used the download on this site and it worked fine for me
im haveing a problem.
1: where is overflow.tif?
2: what is the root folder?
sorry, i suck at stuff like this
thanks in advance
root folder is just the main directory and all the stuff you will need is in that zip file. i just did it myself. also make sure you are on 2.0 (not 2.5) otherwise you cant get to 1.50 from 1.51 or 1.52 or anything else.
when i put the overflow file on my psp and then go to it for the application to start, it says corrupt file so nothing happens, can someone please help me?!
i did everything perfectly and when i go to launch the 1.5 it says “the system software on your PSP system is version 2.00. There is no need to update.” Any suggestions???
^^^ you need to be using the overflow image thing otherwise if you just try to update with just the eboot file thing then nothing will occur as expected. if you are using that stuff try restoring defualt settings, remove any UMDs inside the psp, plug power in make sure charge level is high enough, remove all files of memory stick except required ones. (just copy them to comp temporarly) if it still doesnt work then idk what the problem is
help me! ive done the required things but it wont let me start 1.5 in the game/memorystick, wen i click on it it says corrupted data! can ne 1 help me?
thanks in advance
when i go to open the photo folder with the overflow.tif on my psp the thing just freezes before it opens and the psp just turns off, and ive tried it over and over, any suggestions?
where do i get eboot.pbp from
it says i’m at v2.0 so i don’t need to update. is there a way to get past this?
i have v2.5 can i downgrade to v2.0.
so i can downgrade to v1.5
^^^ if you got to 2.5 i think it might be a little 2 far for right now, but if you just wait a few wks or so they will surely have an downgrader that will allow downgrading to 1.5.

does NOT work if you are computer illiterate
If you don’t know how to program or if you have trouble adjusting your computer settings for proper performance, dont try to do this, you’ll just get stuck and pissed cause your psp wont work anymore. 8^D
it would help if you told where to create the file e mail me with where to create and do it slow step by step thanks alot
Hello everyone, (admin here)
First of all lets help each other out instead of trying insult each other. For this to work you will need a USB cable and you will need a memory stick with enough storage place to place the files give to you above. Open the PSP Drive in my computer and open the “PSP” folder then open the “Game” folder now create an “Update” folder inside that. Once you do so place the EBOOT.PBP file into that newly created folder. After you do so go back to your PSP Drive and open the “PSP” folder then open the “PHOTO” folder. Then copy the overflow.tif which was also included in the .zip file into the PHOTO folder. For the last step copy the “index.dat” and “h.bin” into the root folder of your device. This means it will be sitting beside, not inside, the PSP folder that appears when you open that drive. When you are complete with the setup continue with the instructions provided above and you should be able to downgrade your unit.
anyone got any ideas where i can get software to downgrade from version 2.1 firmware to v1.5??
thanks all
Yes – Had a V1.52 updated to 2.0 and then back down to v1.50. Files work fine, no problems here, i and i wouldn’t say i was to much of a computer expert.
PSP4EVER…
if i use the instructions given above do i have a chance of bricking my psp .
i would be highley greatful for any answers !
cheers
