A site called MacShrine has been posting image of full screen iPods for the last few weeks. Almost every image they have posted has been proven to be a FAKE. Most of these were photoshoped images of the current iPod (video). MacShrine had also claimed that Apple was supposed to release this unit on the Special Apple Event on February 28th. However, the only things that came out were the Intel-based Mac Mini & the iPod Hi-Fi.
The reason we are posting this, even though there is a pretty good chance this is fake, is because the images look more realistic than any of their previous ones. They have currently posted three pictures: iPod Nano besides the “new” iPod AV, iPod AV in someone’s hand, and the iPod AV in the iPod Hi-Fi dock. MacShrine currently claims that Apple plans to release this product on April 1st, 2006, which is Apple’s 30th “birthday”. (founded on April 1st, 1976) Anyways take a look the “possibly fake” images and decide whether they are real for yourself. Also click here for the 3rd image (next 2 ipod nano).
Update 1: As expected the first image has been proven to be completely fake. (Actually is a G5 iPod) MacShrine is offically “full of crap!”
Update 2: It turns out that the image we just linked to above which proved the iPod AV to be a fake is also fake! So pretty much everything here is photoshoped. More like these are sure to turn up soon :(
Update 3: We got bored so we made an iPod Nano AV!

they have added the original pictures!
i’m getting a bit more convinced that these are real.
(unless they are photoshop freaks)
the full size image of the top one looks really weird since it has a line throught it about half way through the ipod screen.
p.s. your image loader when you clik on the pics are pretty neat
I checked the EXIFs, includes:
“Software: Adobe Photoshop CS2 Windows”
Photoshopped …………… fake!
Not that I think the photos are real, but photoshop would show up in the EXIF data even if they just used photoshop to brighten the images or increase contrast, or even just to resize the images. You can’t claim a photoshop just because it has photoshop in the EXIF.
If you checked the images from Skatter Tech (this site) they have been photoshoped because I reduced the size to make it look better in my blog. MacShrine themselves have re-posted, what they claim to be the original images straight from their camera. (although their site seems to be down for now) They stated that they used photoshop to reduce the images, so in a way they are clearing themselves.
Haha they’re releasing it on April Fool’s Day how convenient
Okay this doesn’t appear to be real. Look at the black line around the edge of the screen area, it is far too crisp and dark to be an actual part of the device. My bet is that they used a 5G ipod. Took pictures of the mockup on their laptop screen, and then photoshopped them in. This makes it possible to get all of the glare, shadows, and scan lines looking like it is an actual screen. However the black line running around the edge would likely need to be put in digitally.
Doesn’t anybody find it wierd, that MacShrine has gone down all of a sudden? I mean hasn’t this happened in the past when websites publish top secret apple stuff or something like that?? I think these are real, but then again, I’m not saying that in a few days I wont be downloading a video of how these got made….
One more thing… Ice Age 2…. Has this even come out yet? Did I miss something?
actually they claimed that they got the video from Apple Quicktime Trailers: http://www.apple.com/trailers/
Has been proven fake: http://www.gregard.com/IMG_0752.jpg
i agree with proximity, the link that he posted, http://www.gregard.com/IMG_0752.jpg , prooved that the FIRST image was fake, you can tell by looking at the metal reflection, they are identical even to the smudges, and on the mock image, it shows too much white on the lower corner facing us. but i have fate taht the othere images might, just might, be real. i hope
You guys take a REALLY close look at the picture that says it is a fake compared to the picture of the 6G iPod. The REAL fake is the one that “proves” it is a fake. The 6G iPod has a reflection of the finger on the left side of the ipod, which is gone on the ‘proof’ picture. On the right hand side of the ‘proof’ picture part of the girls finger is erased AND on the ‘proof’ picture all along the left side of the ipod, the shadows are inconsistant with the lighting of the picture. And the click wheel is so obviously flat looking.
I think this 6G iPod Video may be the real deal.
The fake “real” photo is definately a fake. The focus near the top of the image is too sharp – the edges of the iPod are out of focus and the screen is perfectly sharp. Also, the song is playing – not paused at 3:41 on the Gorillaz song – exactly the same a the iPod in the gallery on Apple’s iPod site. You can see it linked from here: iPod page
On the picture of the “6g ipod” in the hi-fi, the song elapsed time is 2.16, and the remaining is 2.09, making it 4.25 mins long, the song is about 2/3’s through on the duration bar when it should be about half way because 2.09/4.25 is almost half.
My version of FACK is 3.25 minutes long so would have 1.09 left at that point… Which would be about 2/3’s in, like the picture.
If that makes sence to everyone…
Mistake by the faker???
with software like this, I cannot believe that this is a real product shot…

ya, the terrible edging around the models nail in the “real” photo is a dead giveaway…flick between the large screen ipod pic and current ipod model, and you can see the large screen ipod actually has better egdes between the models hand and the screen.
I have to agree that the “proof it’s fake” photo is itself fake. The nail edging and appearance are a giveaway, but the fact is that the screen on the iPod would not look like the one shown when flash photographed at an angle like that. The 6G version of photo has a more realistic image of a color screen. And, as Dan pointed out, the screen image on the “proof” photo is really a PhotoShopped image from the Apple iPod site. Just take a flash photo with a real 5G, trying to replicate the angle and composition, and I tell you, the screen would not look that way it does in the “proof” picture.
uh oh, it looks like we were all wrong: http://rusiriusradio.com/itcantbetrue.jpg

Dude, that’s the Origami interface, that’s crazy! it MUST be real! [/sarcasm]
if the controls are built into the screen, what happens if it freezes and you need to restart?

Panic button anyone? Lol, I dunno, maybe they added a new like restart button like on cellphones and stuff liek that?
