Sony’s PlayStation Portable (PSP) is a very popular device and has sold a few million units, but when compared to Apple’s iPod, the PSP lacks storage space. Luckily, the PSP has a built in WiFi card to make up for this disadvantage. With a few simple steps, all of which are included in this tutorial, anyone can stream any non-copyright music from their iTunes library to their PSP. To get started, you will need to have the following:
- PSP With Firmware v2.60
- Networked XP Home/Pro Comp.
- WiFi (802.11b) Network Router
- Apple iTunes v6.0.4 Installed
- Songs in iTunes Music Library
- At Least 1 Playlist With Music
The 5-Step Setup Procedure:
1) Download iTunes-PSP-Server.exe and save it to your desktop.
2) Disable any firewalls and/or keep port 8080 open.
3) Launch iTunes and then click on the iTunes-PSP-Server after.
4) In IE/Firefox open the page “http://localhost:8080”
5) Setup is complete if an “iTunes RSS Server” page appeared.
If the iTunes RSS Server page didn’t appear make sure your firewall has authorized “iTunes-PSP-Server.exe” to access the internet completely. You may also want to add a rule into your firewall to keep port 8080 open. The “black box” is the server, DO NOT close it.
Before going any further make sure you know the IP address of the machine running iTunes and the iTunes-PSP-Server. To find you Local Area Network (LAN) IP go to Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections -> Click on your Network Card -> Support Tab. Your local IP address should look something like this “192.168.1.xxx”. Another method is to go to Start -> Run… -> type “cmd” hit enter -> type “ipconfig” in the window. Your IP Address should be displayed there. Once the 5-Step Procedure is complete and you have found your Local IP Address, proceed to the next step.
The PSP Setup Procedure:
1) Turn on your PSP and go to Network -> Internet Browser.
2) Enter “http://IPADDRESS:8080” into the Address area.
3) When iTunes RSS Server appears add it to your bookmarks.
4) Now click on any orange RSS icon and “Add This Channel”.
5) Close Internet Browser and go to Network -> RSS Channel.
6) Select a playlist you added and YOUR’RE DONE!!!
This tutorial only demonstrated how to access your iTunes Library over a Local Area WiFi network. If you wish to access your iTunes Library music from any “HotSpot” or external location, you will need to forward port 8080 in your router to allow your Local IP to be accessible externally.
Other Notes: To close the iTunes-PSP-Server just select the black window and press CTRL+Shift+C and it should close. If you update your iTunes library once the server has already been started, selected “Reload Library” on the webpage in your PSP browser. The server can only stream non-copyright protected (DRM-Free) MP3 and AAC files. (no video support yet)

This program is great. I had some troubles in the beginning, but now I have it working fine. It works great, and the quality is superb! Hope to see some updates in the future for album art!
I’m only getting 101 song and not all 1880 songs. Dose the menory card matters, I have the 1G card.
Hi! Absolutely hot programm – unfortunately, it is not working for me. I got it to run properly, but everytime I want to stream a channel, the server runs through all the files claiming that they were not “there”. Of course they are and work with iTunes.. seems like I got the same error as the Anonymous User above. Any suggestions please? Thx!
papeete this process again, That what I had to do.
) Turn on your PSP and go to Network -> Internet Browser.
2) Enter “http://IPAddress:8080″ into the Address area.
3) When iTunes RSS Server appears add it to your bookmarks.
4) Now click on any orange RSS icon and “Add This Channel”.
5) Close Internet Browser and go to Network -> RSS Channel.
6) Select a playlist you added and YOUR’RE DONE!!!
Hi, thats actually what I tried, several times. It’s not working. As soon as I choose a feed, it checks the feed and tells me that the files were not there.. :((
I have found it cant find some mp3’s – try using some different tracks – and try lots.
I cant figure out why it cant find some tracks but there you go. The error message is “blahblah.mp3 doesn’t exist. Skipped.” I still say this is an absolutely top bit of software though *8-)

Thorpe yes, if you’ve got 8080 opened and forwarding to your computer, then you just use your outside Ip adress (ISP ip). I just tested tis out on mine, and it works great. If you don’t know your outside address, the quickest way to get it is search google for “my ip” the first site will tell you.
If you don’t like that idea you can find it in your router’s firmware but it’s location varies from router to router.
i have a mac and wanted to know how to run the mac version. it opens up in safari as a large document. i can download but it still won’t run. can anyone please instruct me on how to open the app? thanks
hey i got it to work n’ everythin but i changed a playlist and wen i delete it (from RSS)then re add it, it sez “There is no item”…help
Stream iTunes Library To PSP. The PSP software only aloud you to store 100 songs in the RSS feed and no more then that; So you’ll have to make an addition play list within the iTune source i.e (My MP3 Songs 1, My MP3 Songs 2) and add 100 songs each per playlist and so on. Depending on how many songs you have in your iTune Library your screw.
Kyle – try hitting the reload option on the web page on the PSP.
Is there any way that this could be edited so the user can choose which port the stream is on?
This is a great tool, but my ISP along with a bunch of other block port 8080 so there is no way to listen.
That would be amazing if you could build that in somehow.
damnit. i had it working for ages before now i get the same stupid error that everyone else has. and i KNOW how to do it, because i had it up before.
I get the same error as several people and nobody has said how to fix it, everything seems to work fine but when I try to listen to a feed, the server goes through all the songs claiming they are not “there” when they are. Anybody know how to fix this???
Hi, I kinda figured out what the problem is. After I experienced the error for some days now, I tried to copy one file into a simple /music directory on my harddisk – also, I renamend the file into a simple and short name. Here we go: It worked. Before the file path was huge. I suppose that the server has problems recognizing difficult file names or pathes.
The software also work well on PSP Firmware v2.70 and it is more stable.
Also with 2.7 of the firmware you can save the mp3 to your memory stick – you dont have to stream it :-)
Can not get it to work. I only get an error message on my psp, “Communication with the server failed 8001006F.” I have all the above requirements. When I installed the ITunes-PSP-Server DOS came up and never went away. Do not know if that means anything or not. But for some reason it is not working. I even shut down my firewall and internet security, but still would not work. Anyone got a clue, keeping in mind that I know diddly about ports/anything computer related? Would appreciate the help.
Need help. PSP will not connect to itunes using RSS server. Error, communication with server failed 8001006F. I have all the above listed requirements and shut down my firewall and internet security. I am computer illiterate, so any detailed help would be appreciated.
I think most people would find this freeware CodeWave
application much much easier to use. I had no trouble getting it working on a MAC or PC. It support RSS and works great with my iTunes and my PSP and other machines.
